I like to spend summers behind a boat kneeboarding, tubing, and wake boarding if I get the chance. Growing up camping and being in the outdoors was a common family vacation.
Other hobbies include road trips, reading, shopping, and spending time with my family, boyfriend, and friends. I tend to divide my time between Katy, San Marcos and College Station when I'm not in the newsroom.
No matter how lazy, another hobby of mine is movie watching. It makes for a fun activity with friends or an easy date night. Doesn’t have to be in a theater though, so much of the movies I see are after they’ve come to DVD.
| Movies I liked in the past year | Wish to see |
|---|---|
| Transformer 2 | Sherlock Holmes |
| The Ugly Truth | Remember Me |
| Death Race | Boondock Saints II |
| Harry Potter VI | Letters to Juliet |
| Boondock Saints | Twilight: Eclipse |
| The Hangover | Harry Potter VII Pt. 1 |
| (500) Days of Summer | Percy Jackson & the Olympians |
| Twilight New Moon | Shutter Island |
| Robin and Marian (classic) | The Wolfman |
| Up | Whip It |
A new hobby I’ve picked up is communication design. I’m very familiar with Adobe InDesign and have some basic photoshop skills. I enjoyed layout design when working on my high school newspaper and that has carried over to college. As a copy editor at heart, writing headlines is a finely tuned skill, not just for the right wording and accuracy, but for how the headline looks and fits on the page. On occasion, I also design pages at work for The University Star.
Fall ’09 I took a publication design class and it really opened my eyes. Some of my projects can eventually be seen on (or through links) of the portfolio page of my Web site.
